This picture is making the rounds on social media today and it is just the most heartwarming scene so I wanted to share it with my readers.
Veterans give their life for this country and I don't just mean their physical body. Every veteran has to make so many sacrifices including being away from loved ones, missing their children's milestones, financial burdens and often physical and psychological sacrifice.
If you see a veteran today, please make sure you thank him or her for their service. Please don't forget their families who too sacrifice so much for their loved one to keep us safe.
If you are attending the Parade in Media today, stop into the PA Veterans Museum on State Street right under Trader Joe's - the old Armory Building. You will be mesmerized by the amount of donated items from local veterans, you could spend all afternoon just looking at items and reading about our local veterans. Great place to take your kids too. Very educational especially the Women in the Military display, ladies take your girls in there to see our World War 2 women veterans uniforms and stories. Most of the displays have local names and pictures attached, you might see a neighbor's name in the museum.

Veterans Share Their Stories at PA Veterans Musuem July 13, 2011
I received the following information from the PA Veteran's Museum staff. This event is FREE to attend.
Three Pennsylvania veterans with service spanning from World War II to the Vietnam War will share their personal wartime experiences at a special event to be held at the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum at 12 East State Street in Media on Wednesday, July 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All of the veterans participating in the event have appeared on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN), a statewide public affairs network.
Mayor Bob McMahon and Bob Dimond, both of Media, along with John Scott of Mechanicsburg, will be the featured speakers during a free special event presented by PCN. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the veterans following the presentations. Light refreshments will be served.
Mayor McMahon served in the Army as an infantry officer in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was an advisor with a mobile advisory unit in three Vietnamese villages. Mr. Dimond gave service to his country as an Army combat engineer in Korea from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Scott, a bombardier in a B-24 during WWII, flew fifty-one missions and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
McMahon and Dimond have appeared in the statewide network’s original series, “Voices of Veterans,” which premiered in May. This new series expanded the oral histories to include World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars as well as those who served during the Cold War.
Scott has participated in the network’s award-winning series, “World War II: In Their Own Words,” which concentrated on the personal wartime experiences of veterans serving during World War II. His story was one of those featured in PCN’s more recent book, “World War II Reflections.” Both books will be available for purchase at the event. Scott will be on hand to sign copies of the book which featured his story.
Since 2002, PCN has gathered more than 300 hours of discussions with Pennsylvania veterans from all branches of the armed services. The series has gained national attention from veterans’ groups and the National Veterans’ History Project in Washington, D.C. To date, PCN has donated over 150 interviews with state World War II veterans to the National Veterans’ History Project as a means of historic preservation and educational use today as well as for generations to come. “World War II: In Their Own Words” and “World War II Reflections,” are currently available in a paperback and audio book format. For more information – or to hear a sample chapter of the audio book – visit the PCN website at www.pcntv.com.
PCN is a nonprofit, noncommercial news organization created and supported by cable television companies. PCN receives no state or federal funding. Network programming is distributed on more than 150 cable systems in Pennsylvania serving more than 10 million Pennsylvanians in 3.3 million homes. A complete listing of PCN affiliates and network channel designations is available by visiting PCN's website at www.pcntv.com.
