Betty White: A golden girl forever

If you asked Betty White 10 years ago if she would be working at the ripe old age of 88 or as popular as she is she probably would have said "no way". She probably would have said she would be retired enjoying her grandchildren and maybe on television here and there a guest spot as part of something that might be attached to a Mary Tyler Moore flashback or a Golden Girls retro moment.

How wonderful in this day and age that a woman her age is still on television and as popular as she is. Now some might say she is too old she should retire and enjoy her life while others might say it's her life if she wants to do it why can't she?

It's funny how we all view the world differently. Twenty somethings think she is cute, a grand mom type while 30 somethings are probably fairly indifferent towards her. 40 and 50 somethings remember her from her days as a Golden Girl and still see her like that, an active senior - back then imagine that- A senior was a 65 or 70 year old!. The 60 and beyond crowd are probably proud of her seeing a woman who has lived through many of the adversities they have following her career from when she was a post WWII bit part player in movies until the time she was on password and beyond.

However you see her, you have to admit one thing, for an 88 year old she is doing pretty darn good. She seems alert and oriented cracking jokes and remembering her lines for the new tv show on TV Land - Hot in Cleveland. I watched it the other day for the first time and I thought she is the Sophia of the group, the wise cracking grandmother type. How weird that must be for her. We never see ourselves as that older grandmother we find cute and sarcastic and then one day we wake up and we are her.

I obviously do not know her but she seems like a very nice lady and it seems that many of the celebrities like Sandra Bullock and her costars on tv land truly like her. As I watched the Hot in Cleveland I thought she is 88years old and if she would pass what would they do? How would they write her out? Again another thought many of us often have, just because she is 88 year she could pass while the show is on. We never think John Ritter could pass or one of the younger actresses.

It's always interesting to think about some of these things and our attitudes and thoughts about people, celebrities and aging. Do you have thoughts on this too? If so, leave a comment, I'd be interested in hearing them.
