With food stamp cuts and continued high unemployment, families are struggling to provide food to stretch their meals throughout the month. A recent study found that 16.7% of Delaware County’s children live in poverty and this number has increased 30% since 2008. For the 6th year, Delaware County is hosting a conference on hunger issues.
The New Face of Hunger will provide participants with a better understanding of issues that SNAP clients face while showcasing new initiatives and resources that address hunger in Delaware County. Speakers from Public Citizens for Children and Youth, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start, and COSA will address hunger across the life span. Afternoon breakout sessions will allow participants to learn how to budget food dollars, plant a garden, find food resources, and learn about how ethnic groups eat and shop.
