Veterans Benefit Available for In-home Care

Often I get asked about the Veteran's Benefit for Aging Vets, what is it? Well the Veteran's Benefit is a Special Pension benefit for a veteran age 65 or older or the spouse.

65 or older? Yes the veteran or the spouse or widow of vet has to be 65 or over that is the first criteria.

The second criteria is the applicant for benefit must be in need of assistance with at least 2 daily living skills such as showering or transferring to the commode. The applicant's doctor must signed that the client is in need of services.

The third criteria is financial need. The applicant cannot have too many assets or income in order to qualify.

Once qualified the single applicant can get about a $1000 a month for the rest of his or her life. If a couple qualify, they can get as much as $1900 a month. The application process is overwhelming - it is 12 page document and you must have several documents including discharge papers and marriage certificates.

The monthly pension checks come from the VA right to the home just like a social security check. The money can be spent on person's needs such as in-home care.
